How BusinessNEXT Turned a Market Signal into a $40M Series C

Krish Kupathil

In growth investing, a good market signal rarely changes a company's trajectory on its own. What it does is open a door. After that, someone has to connect the dots, make the calls, write the thesis and stay with the slow operating work that decides whether anything comes of it.

For BusinessNext, the door opened with The Forrester Wave: Customer Relationship Management Software for Financial Services, Q1 2025. The field included Salesforce, Microsoft, Oracle, ServiceNow, Pegasystems and other familiar names. BusinessNext was named a Leader and ranked #1, with the highest scores for platform offerings and customer feedback, ahead of the largest global vendors.

What made that result striking was that BusinessNext was not the biggest company in the report. It was one of the most focused. In vertical enterprise software, and in banking especially, size is a poor proxy for product quality.

What counts is domain depth and the years spent building for the real workflows, controls, customer journeys and regulatory demands that banks live with every day. BusinessNext had put in those years. Its platform was built from the ground up for financial institutions, with depth across CRM, customer engagement, lending, data, workflow automation and AI-led decisioning, and it understood the front office of a bank in ways that horizontal platforms find hard to copy quickly.

At Avataar, we read the Forrester result as more than analyst recognition. We saw the outline of a meaningful opportunity here.

In financial services, CRM had stopped being a simple system of record and had become the layer that ties together acquisition, service, relationship management, operations, data and AI. As banks move toward autonomous operations, a market that Market Research Future projects will reach USD 3.59 billion by 2035 at a CAGR of 20.28%, AI is raising the bar on every customer-facing workflow.

ServiceNow came at the opportunity from a different position of strength: a global enterprise brand, deep workflow credibility, a large installed base, strong platform economics and real momentum in AI. What was less obvious from the outside was how well BusinessNext's banking depth could sharpen ServiceNow's financial-services proposition. On paper the two sat in the same analyst landscape. In practice, they made for a strong unit that can dominate the BFSI sector together.

In April 2025, we put together the strategic rationale for why the two should work together and took it to ServiceNow's leadership. In April 2025, we developed the rationale for why the two should work together and brought it to ServiceNow. What made it move was the strength of the idea itself: a focused platform with rare banking depth, meeting a global player that stood to sharpen its financial-services edge. The logic did the work.

BusinessNext could help ServiceNow deepen its financial-services front office. ServiceNow could give BusinessNext global distribution, platform credibility and a much larger go-to-market engine. For banks, the combination pointed to a cleaner path from customer engagement to execution, with domain-aware AI and enterprise-grade architecture underneath it.

ServiceNow's corporate development team came to the table, and regional sales teams across Asia and Australia followed. The question changed from whether the partnership made strategic sense to whether it could become a real product and revenue motion.

Turning a strategic fit into a real partnership took months of careful diligence and alignment across product, commercial and legal questions, the kind of work that rarely makes headlines but decides whether a deal holds together. Bringing together two organizations of different scale takes real effort on both sides, and the intent throughout was to combine what makes BusinessNEXT’s autonomous banking technology distinctive while pairing it with the global scale and distribution strength that ServiceNow brings, each side respecting what the other had built. Our role was to help keep the process moving and anchored on the value for customers.

That is the part where an investor earns their keep. We stayed close to the promoters and senior management throughout. We helped frame the value of what they had built rather than just the financials, worked through how to position the company, where the risks sat, how to protect independence, and how to keep the conversation anchored on customer value instead of only on terms.

The outcome is now public. BusinessNext has raised USD 40 million in a Series C from ServiceNow Ventures, at USD 700M valuation, as widely reported by media. Together, the two companies will bring deep banking intelligence and enterprise-grade AI orchestration into a single autonomous operating fabric for financial institutions, and accelerate the adoption of Private AI across banking. For BusinessNext, that means a new level of market access and validation. For ServiceNow, a stronger financial-services front office and more revenue-centric workflows on the Now Platform.
For banks, it brings vertical CRM depth, workflow orchestration, domain-specific AI and enterprise scale into one place.

“For us, this is what we mean when we call ourselves a growth and scaling partner rather than just a source of capital.”

Money matters, but it does not do the rest of the job on its own. It does not find the right strategic partner, build the thesis, win senior attention, or line up product, go-to-market, seller incentives, pipeline, legal structure, terms and founder confidence so they all move together. That work is separate, and it is where the value sits.

Three things this deal taught me:

  1. A market signal is only a starting point. The Forrester recognition mattered, but recognition is only the opening; the real work was turning it into an investment thesis that ServiceNow Ventures found compelling enough to back.
  1. The best strategic investments rest on more than financials. Capital is not hard to find. What is rare is an investor whose scale, platform and reach make the company itself more valuable, well beyond the size of the cheque.
  1. The most valuable work behind an investment like this is often the least visible. The round gets announced in a line or two, but the outcome is shaped over months of steady, detailed work, by teams on every side and by an early investor willing to stay in the room throughout.

Most investors today offer networks, hiring, community and advice, and that is good for founders. Our difference is not that we help beyond capital. It is where we spend our time: at the point where strategy, product, go-to-market, corporate development, finance, legal and executive relationships all have to move at once to change the slope of a company.

"This investment reflects ServiceNow’s commitment to delivering industry solutions that actually solve the problem, not generic platforms that require years of customization. BUSINESSNEXT's success with leading Indian banks and insurers, combined with ServiceNow's operational AI capabilities, gives financial services enterprises in APAC a credible, proven path to AI-driven transformation. Avataar Ventures’ sharp focus on anchoring the deal around the value generated for end-customers, BusinessNext and ServiceNow, allowed the partnership discussions to keep moving forward, culminating in a successful deal” --- Sri Srinivasan, Vice President, Corporate Strategy (International Markets) at ServiceNow

BusinessNext built the product, earned the trust of its customers and laid the foundation. Our job was to help turn that foundation into leverage.

If you are building an ambitious B2B technology company, that is the lesson I would hold onto.

Do not only ask who can fund your next phase. Ask who can help you build it.

A Forrester ranking does not usually turn into a USD 40 million cheque. But for BusinessNEXT, it did.

When BusinessNext was named #1 in the 2025 Forrester Wave™ for Financial Services CRM, most people saw an award. We saw the opening for something that could change the company's trajectory.

Fifteen months later, BusinessNext raised a Series C from ServiceNow Ventures at a USD 700 million valuation.

In this piece on the @Avataar Venture Partners blog, I write about what actually happened in between: the thesis, the rooms, and the slow operating work that decides whether a market signal becomes a real partnership.
